Mentorship for boys

In NORTHERN CALIFORNIA communities

WHERE BOYS THRIVE

Boys To Men NorCal trains teams of men to go into our middle and high schools to mentor our most at risk populations of boys and young men, many of which have no fathers at home.

Boys and young men thrive in an environment of care, acceptance, and age-appropriate challenges. Our mentors focus on listening and encouraging through thoughtful questions, rather than offering fixes or advice. Our mentoring approach empowers boys and young men to discover who they are and the values they want to live by.

Mentors Who Care

Our mentors meet regularly to connect and train on how to best help boys with the unique challenges they face in this modern era.

Mentors focus on listening, accepting and encouraging, rather than fixing, rescuing or advising. Mentorship supports boys to tune in to their inner guidence and make empowered choices. Mentors model skills, such as mindfulness, critical thinking and conscious decision-making.

Mentors strive to be positive male role models in addition to the men boys may have in their lives, such as dads, uncles, older brothers and grandfathers.

60-80% of the boys we serve do not have a father present. With these boys, mentors provide a positive male presence so the boys can develop healthy masculinity.

Boys Who Shift Culture

Teachers have reported to us that boys participating in our programs have become positive role models for other boys.

Who we are AND What we do

Boys to Men Mentoring of Northern California is a chapter in the National Boys to Men USA Network. We offer mentoring programs for boys in schools and community centers. Most of the boys we work with are considered "at-risk," facing challenges that make transition to adulthood difficult and uncertain.

In-school mentoring usually takes place in a classroom setting with an average of ten participants and two to four adult male mentors.

Boys are encouraged to open up about life’s difficulties and challenges and are given positive ways to release the burdens of pain, grief, and guilt they may carry. In this healthy masculine environment, peers become like brothers, learning to support each other and stand together.

B2M offers a time-tested curriculum, exercises, and activities that guide boys and young men in examining themselves and their lives more closely, helping them to cultivate the values they want to live by.

Our Programs Get Results!

Over 15,000 boys have participated in Boys To Men Mentoring programs. B2M has a proven approach and curriculum that produces positive change. Our mentoring model is a resounding success with school administrators, parents, mentors, and most importantly, the boys.

Boys who attend regularly learn that they are in control of their lives and can change unwanted behavior by building healthy habits. With the support and accountability of their peers they are successful in making the changes they want to make in their lives.

ADVENTURE MENTORSHIP

Some B2M school programs offer day and weekend outings that feature wilderness skills and adventure sports. There are many natural mentorship opportunities that arise in the wild and when engaging in activities such as kayaking, archery, mountain biking or making fire by friction.

COMMUNITY SPORTS

&

TEEN RITES OF PASSAGE

B2M Mentoring sponsors after school Community Sports Programs (such as basketball) and provides Teen Rites of Passage camping and backpacking experiences that aid the healthy transition from boyhood to young man.

We encourage boys and young men to look less at screens and have more personal connection time with people and nature through activities that enhance communication skills and foster cooperation and teamwork.

Boys To Men IS A life-changing program

Imagine the impact of boys and young men everywhere having access to a positive peer group, fascilitated by trained mentors, that provides connection and support to help navigate life from 6th through 12th grade.

B2M needs donations, grants and sponsorship to keep current programs running, train new mentors and expand to more schools to reach more of our nation's "at-risk" boys and young men.
